The National Covid Memorial Wall — created by the bereaved to honour loved ones lost to the pandemic — will be permanently preserved. Working with The Friends of the Wall and local partners, the government’s aim is to protect this powerful national symbol of remembrance.

An annual UK-wide Day of Reflection will also continue each March, offering a moment to remember those who died and to recognise the extraordinary efforts of health and social care staff, frontline workers, researchers and volunteers.

Other commemorations include new green-space memorials across the country, developed with NHS Charities Together and Forestry England, reflecting the importance of nature during the pandemic. New Government web pages also bring together stories, oral histories and details of memorial sites for the public.
