A new national day of remembrance for victims and survivors of terrorism will be introduced in the UK, with the inaugural event scheduled for 21 August 2026. The announcement follows years of campaigning by those affected by terrorism, who have called for stronger public recognition of their experiences and the long-term impact of attacks.
The day will coincide with the UN International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism and will be hosted in a different location each year to reflect the nationwide impact of terrorist incidents. The annual commemoration aims to honour those killed, support survivors, encourage access to specialist services, and amplify victims’ and survivors’ voices.
The announcement comes alongside wider government plans to strengthen long-term support for those affected by terrorism, including a new dedicated support hub expected to open next summer.
